My husband insisted he had only asked for dinner.
His family couldn’t believe what they were hearing.
Then a sharp cry cut through the chaos.
The baby had woken up.
Everyone heard it.
But my husband didn’t move.
He didn’t turn around.
He didn’t take a single step toward his son.
His father did.
Without hesitation.
He walked past everyone, lifted the baby gently from the crib, and began rocking him.
The room became silent.
For a long moment, no one spoke.
Then my father-in-law looked at me.
“Go pack your things,” he said quietly.
I froze.
“You and the baby are coming with us.”
I looked toward my husband.
Part of me still hoped he would stop me.
Apologize.
Say something.
Anything.
But he stood there in silence.
No apology.
No concern.
