The Burnt Pine Branch I Found on My Car Door – and What It Really Meant
In the morning, when I went out to the car, my heart sank. There was a charred pine branch stuffed into the door handle, wrapped in a crumpled sheet of paper. It was blackish-brown, just like something that had been deliberately set on fire and then extinguished. My first thought was that this was a prank or an attempt to scare me.
Instinctively, I started looking around—checking the house’s cameras, looking under the car, even trying to remember if I’d gotten into a fight with anyone. All sorts of scenarios were running through my head: a warning? A threat? A disgruntled neighbor? Or, even scarier, someone watching me?
