When my wife Emily and I decided to visit a children’s home, we believed we were simply taking the next step in growing our family. At home, our five-year-old daughter Sophia already filled our lives with happiness, but Emily had always hoped to experience raising a child from the very beginning. As we drove to the shelter, we felt a mix of excitement and uncertainty, unsure of what the day would bring.
