If using pre-roasted dried root:

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.

Add the roasted dandelion root.

Reduce heat and let simmer for 10–15 minutes.

Strain into a mug.

Add optional spices, milk, or sweetener if desired.
If starting from fresh dandelion root:

Wash roots thoroughly and chop into small pieces.

Spread on a baking sheet and roast at 375°F (190°C) for 25–35 minutes until dark brown and fragrant.

Let cool, then store in a jar.
